How can I help?
Most answers are below. If yours isn't, send me an email. Peony is made by one person, so you'll hear back from the person who built it.

Common questions
How do I share Peony with my partner?
Sharing a household is part of Peony Plus (see How does household sharing work? below). Once your household has Plus, the owner opens Settings > Household > Invite Code and taps Copy or Share. Your partner creates their own Peony account, picks Join Existing on the first screen, and pastes it in. From then on you both see the same budget, live.
How do I remove someone from my household?
The owner opens Settings > Household > Members and taps Remove. Leave Also Reset the Invite Code switched on, so the old code stops working and they can't rejoin with it.
What's free, and what's Peony Plus?
Everything that keeps your numbers right is free, forever: the Overview, the ledger and search, unlimited categories, split purchases, month-end carryover, backups, Face ID, bill reminders, and up to 5 each of recurring items, savings goals, and accounts. The Default, Default (Dark), and Auto themes are free too.
Peony Plus adds household sharing, Peony on the web, Home Screen widgets, Trends, Year to Date, and Lifetime, unlimited recurring items, savings goals, and accounts, goal dates with a monthly savings plan, every other theme, custom themes and effects, and CSV export. It's $3.99 a month or $24.99 a year, and the yearly plan starts with a month free for new subscribers. The full list is on the home page.
How does household sharing work?
One subscription covers the whole household. When anyone in your household subscribes to Peony Plus, everyone in it gets Plus, on all their devices. The people you invite never pay, and never need to subscribe themselves.
A free household is just one person. To invite someone new, the household needs Plus. If the person paying leaves the household, their subscription goes with them.
How do I cancel Peony Plus?
Apple handles the billing, so you cancel with Apple: on your iPhone, open Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions, pick Peony, and tap Cancel Subscription. If you're the one paying, Peony can take you there too, from Settings > Peony Plus > Manage Subscription.
Plus keeps working until the end of the period you've paid for, or the end of your free month. Cancel at least a day before it renews so you aren't charged again.
I got a new iPhone. How do I get Peony Plus back?
Sign in to Peony with the same account, then open Settings > Peony Plus and tap Restore Purchases. Your iPhone needs to be signed in to the same Apple ID you subscribed with.
Only the person paying ever needs to do this. Everyone else in the household gets Plus through them, automatically.
What happens if Peony Plus ends?
Nothing you've made goes away. Everyone who already joined your household stays joined and in sync, every recurring bill and paycheck keeps posting, and your savings goals, balances, and accounts all stay put.
What changes: you can't invite anyone new, or add recurring items, savings goals, or accounts past 5 each. Trends, Year to Date, Lifetime, CSV export, widgets, and goal dates lock again. If you were using a Plus theme, Peony switches to Auto, and keeps your theme saved for when Plus comes back. On the web you'll see a page about Peony Plus instead of your budget, with a Download Backup button, so your data is never stuck.
Subscribe again any time, and everything comes straight back.
My partner's changes aren't showing up.
Changes normally appear on every device within a second or two. If one seems stuck, pull down on the screen to refresh. Still missing? Check that you're both listed under Settings > Household > Members, since you might be in two different households.
Is Peony available where I live?
Peony is on the App Store in the US and Canada. It keeps your budget in US dollars for now, so if you budget in Canadian dollars, the numbers work fine, they'll just wear a US dollar sign. Other currencies and countries are on the list for later.
How do I react to, pin, or delete a transaction?
Swipe right on a transaction to react with an emoji. Everyone in your household sees it, with your initials. Tap + in the tray to pick any emoji you like.
Swipe left for Delete and Pin. A pinned item stays at the top of its list, and pins work on categories, recurring items, and savings goals too. Pins are saved on each device, so yours won't rearrange your partner's phone.
Where did the tab bar go?
It tucked itself into two circles. The Menu circle opens every screen, Settings included, and the + circle adds a transaction. On a phone they sit in the bottom corners. On an iPad or a computer you can move them to either edge in Settings > Appearance > Navigation, and turn on Keep Menu Open if you'd rather it never closes.
How do I find something I bought months ago?
Open Activity and start typing in search. If there are matches outside the month you're looking at, a Search All Time card shows up under the list. Tap it to jump to Lifetime, which searches, filters, and totals everything your household has ever logged. Lifetime is part of Peony Plus.
My paycheck lands before the 1st. Can I start next month early?
Yes. The household owner opens Settings > Household and taps the row that starts next month early, like Start October Early. From then on, Peony opens on the new month for everyone, and new entries count toward it while keeping their real date. Changed your mind? The same row offers Go Back to September (or whichever month it is) until the 1st.
Does Peony connect to my bank?
No, on purpose. You add what you spend yourself, which takes a few seconds and keeps you in touch with where the money goes. Peony never asks for a bank password or a card number.
How do recurring bills and paychecks work?
Add one from Categories > New Recurring. Peony posts it on its day, every time. To skip it once, or change just this month's amount or date, open Activity, turn on Upcoming, and tap it. The rest of the schedule stays as it is.
Can I use Peony on my computer?
Yes, with Peony Plus. Sign in at app.peonybudget.com with the same account you use on your iPhone or iPad. Everything stays in sync, and it works for anyone in your household, including people without an iPhone.
One exception, for now: if you signed up with Sign in with Apple, the web app can't sign you in, because Apple sign-in only works in the iPhone app. You can still use the web with a second account: create one there with email or Google, then join your household with its invite code, the same way a partner would (see How do I share Peony with my partner? above).
The web app says it's part of Peony Plus.
Peony on the web comes with Peony Plus, which you subscribe to in the free Peony iPhone app. Once anyone in your household subscribes, the web unlocks for everyone in it, including anyone without an iPhone. Then tap I Subscribed, Check Again on the web.
Your budget is still yours either way: Download Backup on that page saves a copy of everything, on any plan.
Households that were using Peony before it went on sale keep Peony Plus for free. If yours was, and you're seeing this anyway, email support@peonybudget.com and I'll sort it out.
The web app signed me out, and my theme went back to default.
In September 2026 the web app moved to its own address, app.peonybudget.com. Your browser treats that as a new site, so you'll need to sign in once more there. Your budget is exactly where you left it.
Your theme, text size, and display name are saved on each device, so pick them again once. Custom themes you designed are saved to your account and will still be there.
I forgot my password.
On the sign-in screen, tap Continue with Email, then Forgot Password? under the Sign In button. Enter your email and Peony sends you a link. It opens in your web browser (even on your iPhone), where you set a new password. Then sign in with it anywhere, the iPhone app included.
No email after a few minutes? Check your spam folder, and make sure it's the address you signed up with. Still stuck? Email support@peonybudget.com from that address and I'll help you get back in.
How do I lock Peony with Face ID?
On iPhone, turn on Settings > Security > App Lock (Face ID). Peony will ask for Face ID when it opens and each time you come back to it, and it hides your numbers in the app switcher.
How do I get bill reminders?
On iPhone, turn on Settings > Notifications > Reminders & Weekly Summary. You'll get a reminder the day a recurring bill lands, and a Sunday summary of what you spent and what's still safe to spend.
Can Peony tell me when my partner adds something?
Yes. With notifications on, turn on Settings > Notifications > Household Activity. Peony checks in the background a few times a day, so an alert can take a few hours to arrive. It also keeps your Home Screen widgets up to date between visits. If nothing ever arrives, check that iOS Settings > General > Background App Refresh is on for Peony.
What happens to my data?
It's used only to run Peony and is shared only with your household. There are no ads and no tracking. The privacy policy has every detail, in plain English. How it's kept safe is just below, in Is my data safe?
Is my data safe?
Yes, and here's how. Peony only knows the amounts and labels you type in, and it keeps them to your household.
- Encrypted on the way and at rest. Everything between the app and Peony's servers travels over HTTPS, and the database encrypts what it stores.
- Only your household can see it. The database itself checks that you're a member of a household before handing over any of its data, so it doesn't rely on the app getting it right.
- No bank connection. Peony never asks for a bank password or a card number, so there's nothing in it that could move your money.
- No ads, no tracking. There's no analytics or advertising code in Peony, and your data is never sold or shared for marketing.
- Careful with passwords. They're stored only as salted hashes, so nobody can read them, and new ones are checked against lists of known leaked passwords.
- Locked on your iPhone. Turn on Settings > Security > App Lock (Face ID) and Peony asks for Face ID and hides your numbers in the app switcher. Home Screen widgets hide their amounts while your iPhone is locked.
- Yours to take or delete. Export a backup or delete your account any time (both are below).
To be straight with you: Peony isn't end-to-end encrypted. As the person who runs it, I have technical access to the database, and I only look when you ask me for help, when it's needed to keep Peony working and secure, or when the law requires it. The privacy policy has the full picture.
Export your data
One month, as a spreadsheet (Peony Plus)
- Open Activity and pick the month you want.
- Tap the download button next to the month's name.
- You'll get a CSV file that opens in Numbers, Excel, or Google Sheets. On iPhone, the share sheet opens so you can save it to Files or send it on.
Any search or filter, as a spreadsheet (Peony Plus)
- Open Activity and switch to the Lifetime tab.
- Search or filter down to what you want, like a year, a category, or one store.
- Tap the download button at the end of the search row. You get a CSV of exactly what's on screen, with a summary at the top.
Everything, as a backup (household owner, free on every plan)
- Open Settings > Data.
- Tap Export All Data. This saves one file with your whole household: transactions, categories, recurring items, savings goals, and payment methods.
- Keep it somewhere safe. To bring it back later, use Restore from Backup in the same place. A restore replaces what's in the household now, so export first if you're unsure.
Backups hold your household's budget. Device settings, like your theme and text size, aren't included, since they belong to each device.
Delete your account
- Open Settings > Danger Zone.
- Tap Delete Account, read what will be removed, tap Continue, then Delete My Account.
- You'll be signed out, and your account is gone from Peony's servers straight away.
- If you own the household, deleting your account deletes the whole household for everyone in it. Export a backup first if you'd like to keep a copy.
- If you're a member, your login and membership are removed, and the transactions you added stay with the household.
Deleting your account doesn't cancel Peony Plus. Apple bills the subscription, so cancel it in Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions on your iPhone, before or after you delete. If you're the one paying, Peony shows a Manage Subscription button when you tap Delete Account.
Just want to stop sharing a budget, but keep your account? Open Settings > Household > Members, find your own name and tap Leave. Your transactions stay with the household, and you can rejoin later with its invite code.
Can't sign in? Email support@peonybudget.com from the address on your account, and I'll delete it for you. The privacy policy lists exactly what deletion removes.
